Ukraine Aims to Build on Initial Gains in Southern Offensive

Ukraine pressed ahead with an offensive in the south of the country on Tuesday, trying to build on some initial gains against Russian forces after launching the attack to retake the Kherson region a day earlier.

Videos on social media showed explosions across the city of Kherson, the capital of the Dnipro River region overnight. Russian state media reported on Tuesday that more than 100 rockets hit Nova Kakhovka, the region’s second largest city, in the past two days. According to Russian military bloggers connected to the Russian Armed Forces, Ukrainian forces have captured at least one village northeast of the city of Kherson and are fighting hard for several others.
