Ukraine Battles Flooding After Russian Strike on Dam

Ukrainian authorities said on Thursday they had managed to stave off flooding caused by a Russian missile attack on the southern city of Kryviy Rih, as Moscow shelled the dam with fresh volleys and Ukrainian forces consolidated positions in the recently retaken areas.

Russia changed strategy after heavy military defeats and this week launched a campaign of cruise missile attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. The first attack on a dam in Kryviy Rih on Wednesday was followed by a strike on Monday that shut down the main power plant in the country’s second-biggest city, Kharkiv, and shut off power to much of eastern Ukraine.
