Ukraine Faces Energy Blackouts as Its Forces Press On in South, East

Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said around 600,000 consumers were left without power due to damage to infrastructure, a sign of the cost of the war as Ukrainian forces try to roll back Russia’s advance east and south.

As Ukraine’s residents prepare for the winter, damage is occurring to power lines and other vital infrastructure, but residents of the war-torn Donbass region to the east, where people are stockpiling wood and coal in gas-poor villages and towns, are faring better overwhelmingly affected.
