Ukraine Rings In New Year With Hopes of Russia’s Defeat

KYIV, Ukraine—Ukrainians welcome 2023 with drinks, airstrikes, and a firm belief that their country will completely repel the Russian invasion that has marked the past year with disruption and death shit.

Their optimism for the New Year comes with about 20% of the country still in Russian hands; military and civilians still die in the thousands; and the economy suffer long-term damage from a war that few Western experts say will end soon, or stay off the negotiating table.
