Ukraine Scrambles to Shift Its Grain Before Storage Runs Out

ISTANBUL — Officials in Ukraine are scrambling to clear a backlog of millions of tons of grain trapped by the Russian invasion after the first shipment left the country this week amid the food crisis.

The first ship to leave Ukraine under a United Nations-brokered deal, a bulk carrier carrying a cargo of corn, steamed south across the Black Sea to Istanbul on Tuesday for inspection. Then it’s on to Tripoli in Lebanon.
