Kane’s German advantage as England face Ukraine in European Championship qualifiers
England face Ukraine in Poland this evening as qualifying for Euro 2024 continues with a clash between the top two teams in Group C at the Tarczynski Arena.
Gareth Southgate’s side already have four wins from four games and are top of Group C, and a victory here over second-placed Ukraine would all but guarantee qualification for next summer’s tournament in Germany. This is England’s only competitive game of the September international break, with a friendly against Scotland next week.
Ukraine has to play the game in the Polish city of Wroclaw as the war continues at home following the Russian invasion of the country. They are fighting with European champions Italy for the second automatic qualification spot in the group. Ukraine go into the game with six points from three games, while Italy – who face North Macedonia tonight – have three points from two games so far.

After a struggling start that threatened to result in a poor end to the first half, England will be happy to be able to level the score at half-time.
A well-taken Ukraine goal was canceled out by a masterful touch from Harry Kane and a composed touch and finish from Walker, but England will be aiming for a far better performance in the second period.
