Ukraine War Is Depleting U.S. Ammunition Stockpiles, Sparking Pentagon Concern

WASHINGTON — The war in Ukraine has depleted American stockpiles of some types of ammunition and the Pentagon has been slow to replenish its arsenal, prompting US officials to worry that American military preparedness may be threatened by the shortage.

The US has delivered 16 US missile launchers, known as Himars, to Ukraine over the past six months, thousands of weapons, drones, missiles and other equipment. Much of it, including ammunition, comes straight from U.S. stockpiles, depleting stockpiles earmarked for unexpected threats, defense officials say.
