With victory on Monday at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey, Mexico, the USWNT overcame defensive struggles against rising Haitians and secured the first game of the inaugural tournament between the top teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean.

Roselord Borgella could have given Haiti a penalty after Morgan’s two early goals, but she missed and was later booked for a foul before half-time.

The tournament will run until July 18, with the top four teams in the eight-team tournament automatically qualifying for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The winner of the tournament qualifies directly for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
