Update As The Delfonics Lead Singer William Hart Dies At 77

Lead singer of The Delfonics William Hart has died at the age of 77. William was having trouble breathing, which is why he was recently taken to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he died Thursday of complications from surgery, according to his son Hadi, speaking to TMZ.

The Philadelphia-based band was formed by William and his brother Wilbert in the late 1960s with Randy Cain, Ritchie Daniels and Thom Bell. The collective would be instrumental in influencing the growth of the Philadelphia-native TSOP sound.

William and Thom exclusively wrote all of the songs, including such hits as Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time), “La-La (means I love you)”, and “Ready or not, here I come (can’t hide from love)”.

“Didn’t I” and “La-La” were also featured in Quentin Tarantino’s film Jackie Brown. Other films that popularized her music include Crookyln and The Family Man. The original band disbanded in 1975 after recording twelve Top 20 singles on Billboard’s R&B and Soul singles chart. Splinter groups formed by former members continued to appear in the 1990s and 2000s.

Hart left a legacy that will last for decades. We will be thinking of his friends and family and may he rest in peace.
