Urgent warning over silent killer behind THOUSANDS of deaths after Brits scared off getting simple life-saving meds

Thousands of middle-aged people are now dying of preventable diseases amid fears they would put pressure on the NHS amid the pandemic.

Sir Chris Whitty has warned the government that problems with access to medicines could lead to over 800 deaths a week.

The Times has reported that thousands of middle-aged Britons are dying from easily treatable heart disease.

It is thought people were too scared to go to the NHS when the Covid pandemic was at its peak and were not given vital statins or blood pressure pills.

Another factor is believed to be that people were too afraid to go to the hospital for fear of catching the virus.

The medical adviser stressed that the 5,170 deceased men aged 50 to 64 could have been helped with heart medication.

Health and Human Services Secretary Steve Barclay agreed with Whitty, saying: “Now a common understanding must be the extent of the COVID backlog, with around 7.1 million patients currently.

“For example, we know from the data that there are more 50-64 year olds with cardiovascular problems.

“It’s the result of delays in this age group seeing GPs because of the pandemic, and in some cases not getting statins for high blood pressure on time.”

To solve the crisis, it was promised earlier this year that a network of up to 160 testing centers will be open to the public by 2025.

So far, the Department of Health has opened more than 90 community diagnostic centers that Brits can access to test themselves for cancer, heart and lung disease.
