USC vs. Washington state: Betting odds, lines, picks, predictions

Las Vegas sportsbooks have sixth-placed USC Trojans (5-0, 3-0 in the Pac-12) as 13-point favorites as they defeat the Washington State Cougars (4-1, 1-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday received: 30h at the Colosseum.

The Trojans are undefeated on the scoreboards, but they’re only 3-2 against the spread on the betting boards as they claim a 42-25 win over Arizona State in which they failed to cover as a 24½-point favorite, and that followed a 17-14 win at Oregon State when they were 5½-point favorites.

Coach Lincoln Riley’s freshman-year offense averages 42.2 points, with Oregon State’s game being the only one in which quarterback Caleb Williams & Co. didn’t score at least 40 points. On paper, the Trojans should be able to win this game and continue their march toward the Pac-12 championship game, but the problem with awarding so many points is that while USC will likely be up by two touchdowns at some point , but will they be able to hold onto the cover?

The Cougars’ strength is their defensive line, which can put pressure on Williams and it will be difficult for USC to run the ball.

Still, that line opened at USC -10 and -10½ on some Las Vegas books, and early bettors were discouraged from putting down the points to bring them to the Trojans’ current line (as of Thursday morning) -13. At that line, 59% of the bets are still on USC at DraftKings, while 52% of the money is on Washington State. For the latest betting trends, visit VSiN’s CFB betting split page.

It’s not always easy to thwart turnovers in a football game (since they can be random with the impact of football), but the Cougars have flipped the ball at least twice in each of their five games, and the Trojans D have shown the ability to come up with four takeaways in the Oregon State game that were key in their toughest Test yet. If these trends continue, it would be key to USC’s victory and coverage.
