Usher gave fans an update on how Justin Bieber is doing after Ramsey Hunt Syndrome left him paralyzed on one side of his face.
“I think as artists, we’re all going to experience some things that people might not necessarily understand,” he told Extra.
“I find [Justin] obviously took the world on a journey. I’m glad I was there from the start and I’m still there as a friend to this day.”
Bieber announced his diagnosis in a video posted to Instagram.
“As you can see, that eye doesn’t blink. I can’t smile on this side of my face. That nostril isn’t going to move, so that side of my face is completely paralyzed,” he said.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome, also known as herpes zoster oticus, occurs when the varicella zoster virus reactivates and spreads to the facial nerves near your inner ear. It’s the same virus that causes chickenpox and shingles (herpes zoster).
