Utah Jazz reach two-year deal with Italian F Simone Fontecchio, add Jason Terry as assistant coach

The Utah Jazz have agreed a two-year, $6.25 million deal with Italy forward Simone Fontecchio, his Excel Sports agent Sam Goldfeder told ESPN on Sunday.

Fontecchio, 26, is considered the best international small forward available. He averaged 11.9 points for Baskonia of Spanish ACB last season and has scored 41% with 3 points in his last two professional seasons.

The Jazz also agreed to a deal to hire Denver Nuggets G League coach Jason Terry on Sunday, sources told ESPN. Terry, a 19-year NBA veteran and sixth NBA Man of 2008-09, joins the staff of new coach Will Hardy after spending the past season as the Grand Rapids (Michigan) gold coach.

Fontecchio is the first free agent signed by the Jazz this offseason, giving them 14 players on their roster. He has superior physical strength and is said to be able to guard shooting guards, small forwards, and power forwards in the NBA.

ESPN’s Jonathan Giveny contributed to this report.
