Valorant devs planning huge KAY/O, Phoenix & Yoru changes in testing

Riot Games contributor Jeff Landa has announced that Valorant developers are testing major changes to KAY/O on the PBE version of the popular first-person shooter to help the ailing agent.

Valorant was shaken up again with the release of the newest map, Pearl, and a brand new rank with the launch of Episode 5. However, some agents continue to lag behind the others.

Over the past few Acts, the community has repeatedly seen a few Agents malfunction, resulting in them being neglected by players and ultimately having the lowest win rates in the game.

However, the developers are trying to shake up the meta by attempting to revive agents like KAY/O, Yoru, and Phoenix with changes in hopes they’ll fit back into the community’s top picks.

Valorant developers confirm agent changes on PBE

According to Valorant stats site ValorBuff, KAY/O, Phoenix, and even Yoru — despite Episode 4’s overhaul of the Japanese agent — sit at the bottom of the board in terms of both pick rate and win rate.

Regardless, the developers won’t sit around, instead taking action that will hopefully give the agents a boost. In a series of tweets on June 24th, Valorant communications strategist Jeff Landa revealed to the community that a number of changes to the game’s PBE are coming.

KAY/O changes

In KAY/O, the robot initiator receives a few subtle changes. Agent’s FRAG/MENT ability zone diameter reduced from 10m to 8m, and damage is now dealt without line of sight.

Also, KAY/O’s ultimate NULL/CMD ability is only heard by allies when the agent is revived.

For Yoru, the Japanese duelist only gets changes to his ultimate. The overall duration of the ability is simply increased from 10 seconds to 12 seconds. Equip time has also been reduced from 1.2s to 0.8s.

Phoenix changes

In the case of Phoenix, the once-popular duelist is getting a few changes. Starting with his curveball ability, the mThe ax duration of his lightning bolt is increased from 1.1s to 1.5s, while winding up has been reduced from 0.7s to 0.5s.

Meanwhile, the British agent equip his weapon earlier when he stops bending his blaze wall. Also, Phoenix now spawns back at the marker on his Run it Back Ultimate with the amount of armor he had when the ability was cast.

For those who don’t know, the PBE (Public Beta Environment) allows developers to test changes on a smaller player base before going live on the main servers.

So it’s worth noting that the general community won’t experience these changes until the next patch on July 5th – assuming the developers are happy to run tests on the PBE. Valorant devs planning huge KAY/O, Phoenix & Yoru changes in testing
