Van Hollen Suffered Minor Stroke In Western Maryland Over The Weekend – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) announced Sunday night that he suffered a minor stroke while giving a speech in Western Maryland over the weekend.

He felt dizzy and had acute neck pain during his speech, he said. He was then admitted to George Washington University Hospital, Van Hollen said.

“On the recommendation of the Attending Doctor, I sought medical attention upon returning home,” he said. “Earlier today, an angiogram showed I had suffered a minor stroke in the form of a small vein laceration at the back of my head. Fortunately, I have been told that there is no long-term effect or damage from this incident, but my doctors have advised me to exercise extreme caution, I remain under observation for a few days. ”

Van Hollen said in a social media post that he plans to cut back on his schedule over the next few days.

The senator said he looks forward to returning to work in the Senate later this week. He also thanked the medical team at George Washington University Hospital for taking good care of him.
