Vehicle explodes in central Milan, releasing plumes of smoke

Clouds of smoke could be seen rising in the northern Italian city on Thursday.

ROME and LONDON – A parked van exploded in a busy part of downtown Milan Italy on Thursday morning.

The Carabinieri – Italy’s police force – said it was unclear what caused the van’s explosion in the Porta Romana district. No other details are known at this time, officials said.

The blast ignited several other vehicles nearby, and thick black smoke billowed into the sky in a downtown area.
