Voorhees, New Jersey Verizon store armed robbers arrested in Northern Liberties after Philadelphia police chase

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Police pursued suspects from a robbery at a cell phone store in South Jersey to Philadelphia, where three people were arrested.

Neighbors in Northern Liberties have been ordered to stay in their homes while police search for the suspects.

“It was just scary. There’s always something going on in the city, but not usually here,” said a neighbor who declined to give her name.

It all started around 8:30 p.m. Monday at a Verizon store on Route 73 in Voorhees Township, Camden County.

Four men entered the store, police said.

They were armed and made off with between $30,000 and $40,000 worth of cash and electronics.

Police told Action News that three employees were tied up during the robbery.

Police say one of the stolen devices had a tracker, and that helped authorities follow the suspect’s car, a Florida-licensed sedan.

They tracked the limousine across state lines to Philadelphia.

Philadelphia police raised their helicopter and used infrared to follow the suspects.

“We started hearing a lot of sirens, and then I noticed through the blinds that we were starting to see searchlights from the helicopter,” Northern Liberties’ Alisa Berenato said.

When the vehicle arrived at Northern Liberties, officers were able to bag the vehicle around 5th Street and Fairmount Avenue.

“The police stopped her at the end of the street and the car was trapped. The boys jumped out of the cars and ran, but one of them hid under one of those cars,” said a neighbor named Bruce, who declined to give his last name.

Police say four suspects got out and three were arrested.

Police K9s were brought in but one suspect remains at large.

“I just saw what looks like half the Philadelphia police outside,” said Joe Millard of Northern Liberties.

No description was released about the fourth suspect.

No injuries were reported.

“From what we’ve seen, I think the police have done a really good job. It was really scary,” added Berenato.
