Watch Shawn Mendes take on Bruce Springsteen’s classic ‘Dancing In The Dark’

Shawn Mendes covered Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing In The Dark’ for fashion brand Tommy Hilfiger.

The video, uploaded to Tommy Hilfiger’s YouTube channel, showcases Mendes’ taking the 1984 original as part of the apparel company’s ‘Classics Reborn’ campaign. In it, the pop star dons the campaign’s latest sustainable outfit while backed by a glittery version of the track, which is the lead single from Springsteen’s ‘Born In The USA’ album. See it below.

This is not the first time the Canadian singer has been connected to Springsteen. In 2018, Mendes opened the MTV VMAs with a performance and outfit that many consider reminiscent of Springsteen’s white ao dai look. In 2019, By NME Douglas Greenwood compared Mendes to The Boss, writing in his column Pop Is Not A Dirty Word: “Springsteen was a man who had nothing to prove but who gave everything at each and every show. Watching Mendes bounce his way through a 21-song set of singles and albums in front of a crowd of 20,000 is a strange kind of excitement. ”

This cover marks Mendes’ first musical pitch since his March single, “When You’re Gone,” which he debuted at SXSW. That track, along with ‘It will Be Okay’ in late 2021, is expected to form part of Mendes’ upcoming, currently untitled fifth studio album.

In January, Mendes was forced to halt the UK and Europe leg of his ‘Wonder’ tour, which has since been postponed to July 2023.
