Tesla is hosting another AI day, and it’s going to be particularly easy to tune into. The automaker is streaming its 2022 event tonight at 9:15 p.m. Eastern Time on YouTube (below) as well as on its website. Elon Musk has warned that the presentation will be “very technical” and could last six hours, but you could have several reasons to watch it, even if you don’t like diagrams and in-depth explanations.
Especially Musk said in June that Tesla pushed back AI Day to September 30 in hopes of having a working humanoid Optimus robot. It would only be a prototype, but it would demonstrate that the company’s vision of an autonomous helper exists beyond pretty 3D renderings. The machine is designed to handle dangerous or monotonous tasks without the need for step-by-step instructions.
You could also see improvements in Tesla’s vehicle technology. The company’s Full Self-Driving feature is still rough, and Tesla could explain how it plans to refine the system. You might also see upgrades to Autopilot driver support. Behind the scenes, the company could expand the capabilities of the Dojo supercomputer it uses to train vision-based AI systems.
