The Texas trio have been teasing their comeback since the beginning of the year. In February, they shared an update on their fifth studio album, a sequel to last year’s ‘Greatest Hits’, teasing that it was “80% done”.

They then teased that if ‘Greatest Hits’ was “an indoor nighttime album”, the new record would be “an outdoor daytime album”. They also hinted at an upcoming single, writing in a note: “Need to tell you something soon, perhaps?”

Waterparks – consisting of Awsten Knight, Geoff Wigington and Otto Wood – signed with Fueled By Ramen, after they left 300 Entertainment; ‘FUNERAL GRAY’ is their first track for the iconic alternative label.

And then she walked away / I don’t know her name / I can’t explain the look on her face / She wears a sweater in summer weather, yes“Knight sings on guitar-led music.

She wears a sweater, it’s a funeral gray / And now it’s killing me / I just want you to be my next mistake I’m going to make / She wears a sweater in time Summer weather, yes / She wears a sweater, it’s gray funeral. ”

‘FUNERAL GRAY’ comes with a video directed by Knight and Erik Rojas. You can check it out below:

Talking to NME at last year’s Reading Festival, Knight revealed that there were several song collaborations sitting in the Water Park vault.

Texan rapper De’Wayne previously featured on their 2021 single ‘You’d Be Paranoid Too (If Everyone Goes Out For You)’, and Aswten said NME that this is not the only song they work on. “I have a couple of things with De’Wayne,” explaining that the duo have been working on tracks remotely during the coronavirus lockdown.

“There was a song that we did that we went back and forth a lot and it was really good, so maybe that song will come out at some point.”

He also told NME that the pop-punk band had countless demos left over from ‘Greatest Hits’.

“There are more demos for ‘Greatest Hits’ than any other album [we’ve written], there are 108,” he said. “Maybe we’ll pull one or two… Maybe I’ll leak if I’m in that mood. I get into that mood sometimes, to the point where I get annoyed and I’m like, ‘Something has to be done… let’s go!’ “

Meanwhile, Waterparks recently changed the song title for one of their songs to match a fan’s erroneous tattoo.
