We had one hell of a party when we won the Oaks back in 2003… let’s hope we are celebrating again with Sea Of Roses

It all started for me in THE Oaks.
When you are a new young coach taking over from a legend like your father, you need to hit the ground running.
And wow what a day Casual Look 2003 gave us at Epsom.
It was a great race and she sped past along with Aidan O’Brien’s favorite yesterday and I really wasn’t sure if she held on or not.
We went out onto the track not knowing the result and the agonizing wait just makes you sick – but when she was crowned the winner it was pure joy.
We actually had three winners that day in Epsom so it was a magical afternoon and I vividly remember Mick Channon saying to me when I came back ‘boy the only way is from here down!’

Casual Look belonged to Will Farish, then American Ambassador, and he threw a great party at the embassy later that summer, which I have only vague memories of…
I think it was the highlight of his time here because it was just after 9/11 and it wasn’t a particularly happy time to be in a role like that, but it gave us some good days.
Two decades later (where have the last 20 years gone?) SEA OF ROSES will try to bring us another fairytale result.
She was fifth in the Musidora but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t her real run, she probably just wants to go further than a mile and a quarter.
It was a stop-start race and Oisin thinks she’s a lot better and I’m inclined to agree.
A tougher endurance test will be a big plus for her, but it remains to be seen if she needs a little more lightness in the ground or not.
There’s a longer than usual gap between Epsom and Royal Ascot this year so we thought we’d roll the dice and see what happens as you can probably play in both matches.
After all, you only get one chance in these races.
Whatever happens, I think she’s a first class filly – she’s going to win us a big race at some point.
