What Did the Steele Dossier Hoax Cost America?

An investigative report by the Wall Street Journal this week highlights how frivolous the claims in the Steele dossier and how efforts by Christopher Steele, the ex-British spy hailed as non-existent, to verify or even test them.

Sources for many of Steele’s allegations include three people “gathered together through a small business publicity contract,” none of whom had any inside knowledge of Kremlin politics or Trump campaign: Washington-based itinerant researcher, Russian-born Igor Danchenko; a childhood friend, Olga Galina, who works for an internet company based in Cyprus; and Charles Dolan, a US public relations manager, for whom the Cypriot company is seeking unrelated advice.
