What happened to H.E.L.P.eR.? ‘Venture Bros,’ creators weigh in

A beeping robot named HELPeR for seven seasons. (aka Helper) was vital to Team Venture. He’s traveled the globe, sped through space and survived all sorts of catastrophes. But in the series finale film The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the blood of the baboon’s heartthis robo-buddy has taken a hit that has some fans wondering: is Helper dead?

Mashable investigated this question The Venture Bros. The creators, Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick, during an interview – prior to the SAG/AFTRA strike – that delved into the final chapter’s obstacles, cutscenes and its deeper meanings. But when it comes to Helper, he’s canonically alive.

In the earth-shattering climax of The Venture Bros. In the finale, Helper teams up with Doc Venture, Sergeant Hatred, The Monarch, and 21 to bring down the HelperPods that raised the Venture Tower into the stratosphere. He’s locked and loaded, gun in hand. But the electromagnetism generated by these dangerous gits tears him apart as soon as he rolls onto the crime scene.

As we watch the rest of this rescue team spring into action Voltron-like device built by JJ, The rescuer is down, on the ground, but not outside. When asked that he was dead, Publick replied firmly, “No.”

“I mean, we tore him apart, but he’s a robot,” Publick said. “It’s happened to him before. His head was in Brock’s chest for a while, but he -‘

“Walking Eye!” interjected Doc Hammer, recalling the time Rusty converted the bot into a conspicuous monstrosity. Hammer then added: “He was a walking eye. It was in Brock’s chest. We beat him up so many times.”

Publick noticed that Helper reappears in Radiant Bloodafter being torn to pieces. “He’s in the last scene. He doesn’t wiggle his little mouth or anything. But he is there.”

This is true. But among the motley crew gathered in the living room of Ben’s rustic cabin, even eagle-eyed friends might have missed him. Look again. While the monarch and his wife chat in the bedroom, Jefferson Twilight, Dr. Orpheus, Rusty Venture, Dean Venture, Brock Samson, Henchman 21, and Sergeant Hatred near a blazing fire – with Helper’s remains.

The robot’s decapitated head lies nestled in Sergeant Hatred’s beefy arm. Sure, it doesn’t beep or fizz, but it’s survived worse. Rusty, Dean or Ben can surely get him back on his wheels.

So don’t worry, Venture fans. helper lives!
