We first caught sight of Huawei’s Super Device in March, when MUO attended MWC in Barcelona. Since back, we’ve been testing Huawei’s self-developed ecosystem to see if it really harmonizes with Huawei’s technology.
Well, we’re happy to say yes, and if you’re fed up and tired of a multi-wired workstation and devices that don’t just… work together… the productivity possibilities with Super Device are huge. worthy of investigation.
What is a Huawei Super Device?
For an in-depth explanation of what Super Device really is To be, you can read our guide to Huawei’s technology ecosystem. To make it short, Super Device is Huawei’s exclusive IOT, which means you can connect multiple devices together — wirelessly — for an incredibly seamless experience.
For example, let’s say you have Huawei’s MateBook 14S, MatePad 11 and a PixLab printer. There are so many devices, we forgive you for not wanting connection problems between them. However, Huawei Super Devices allow all of your Huawei technology to communicate with each other, providing a multi-faceted experience depending on your needs.
Plus, it’s all cordless, so you won’t have to wind up behind your desk or spend three hours printing address labels on devices that work together but don’t. Super Device makes your entire productivity process cleaner, easier, and hassle-free.
For the Super Device experience, Huawei has equipped us with an entire device ecosystem, allowing us to see the true breadth of its proprietary IoT. The test units we received were:
So a wide range of possibilities is present here, with a range of devices designed to work as a connected whole.
How connecting Huawei super devices improves productivity
One of the main purposes of Huawei’s HarmonyOS and in other words, Super Device, is to allow all your Huawei devices to chat quickly and easily with each other. With Super Device running, you literally have multiple uses for each device with just one swipe, making dramatic changes to your productivity across the board. We can look at each connection method individually.
But first, let’s quickly talk about how you connect the devices. It’s incredibly simple; you just need to go to Huawei PC Manager, open Super Device and you will see the device you are using appear as a floating bubble. Any other Super Device-compatible technology will then show up in its own bubble, orbiting the central device. It’s simply dragging a bubble to the central device and hey, you’ve connected your devices first.
With Super Device pairing between PC and smartphone, you can use your smartphone in many ways. This introduces the ability to wirelessly transfer files between your PC and smartphone, or vice versa. So, if you’re out and about and want to take a quick snap with your Huawei P50 Pro, you can quickly, easily and wirelessly transfer them to your MateBook 14S, just by using the Super Device.
You’ll also see a fax of the smartphone screen on the laptop screen, where you can use most of the phone’s functions, including replying to WhatsApp messages or making and receiving calls. call without picking up the phone. This is great for helping with focus, as it means you can respond to messages quickly without picking up your phone and thus avoid falling into a social media loophole.
With PC-to-tablet super pairing, you have three options. You can use your tablet in Mirror, Extend, and Collaborative modes. Mirror (as the name suggests) is a clone of your laptop screen that allows you to use your stylus with your favorite digital art program, creating a quick sketch for later. that works again on the MateBook. Any sketches you do will also happen on the laptop screen, so you can see how this can streamline your creative process.
Extended mode allows you to use the tablet as a second display for your laptop, which is a great idea if you want to work on two screens in a coffee shop where real estate on the face The desk is high end. Collaboration mode lets you use your MateBook’s mouse and keyboard to interact with your MatePad, and transfer text, files, or images between the two devices with a simple swipe.
PC-to-PC pairing for Super Device monitoring works just like PC-to-tablet, with a few exceptions. You have mirror mode and extended mode, both of which work the same way as with tablets (except for the MateView which doesn’t have a touchscreen). Note that this is a wireless presentation, so you don’t even need an HDMI cable or any other cable to connect the devices for that matter.
You also get what Huawei calls a pop-up connection, via Super Device. So, for example, your Huawei printer will use a pop-up connection, a prompt that appears when you turn on your printer, enabling automatic, wireless pairing. Anyone who has ever tried to print a one-page document from a PC or smartphone to an HP printer knows this particular difficulty, so the ability to simply connect and print via Super Device is a luxury. , when it should be a standard throughout the home printing industry.
You’ve seen how the Super Device can work wonders for your productivity, but is it?
Huawei Super Device: A Harmonious Experience?
Having used Super Device for a few weeks as my daily workstation, I can definitely say that the ecosystem is great from a productivity standpoint and even better if you throw your creativity into the mixer.
Wireless projection between the MateBook 14S and the MateView screen is great; I don’t need to connect my laptop to my monitor via HDMI anymore. I simply used Super Device to set up my monitor in Extended mode, which means I now have a large work monitor along with my laptop’s screen; perfect for word processing that I spend most of my day doing.
I also like the P50’s ability to connect to the MateBook. For full disclosure, a condition that I have means that I struggle a lot with concentration, finding that I am easily distracted by anything and everything. With the phone screen visible on the laptop screen, I can answer anything urgent without picking up the phone.
I can even leave the P50 in another room and put it on do not disturb mode from the MateBook, meaning I can answer important calls from the laptop, but other distractions won’t overwhelm me. passable and I can’t practically pick up my phone to check it; a huge productivity boost for me personally.
It is easy to see how Super Device can streamline the workflow of digital artists, graphic designers and those engaged in similar goals, be it for work or pleasure. . While I don’t work in digital design, the MatePad 11 and MateBook 14S make a powerful combination of digital pen to paper, thanks to reflection mode and the use of a stylus. ; something you can’t easily achieve with a laptop.
Regarding connectivity, I have had no problems connecting the devices and keeping them connected. During my testing, I experienced no dropouts, which is important if you’re going to streamline your workflow. As soon as I activated Super Device, I was able to connect to any compatible device in the vicinity, with a simple swipe of my finger.
To discuss printer connectivity again briefly, I found this a pleasure. As you might have guessed, I wasted hours scratching my head at my HP inkjet printer, wondering why I couldn’t print my girlfriend’s twelfth Vinted postage label just by pressing “Print”. The pop-up connection between the MateBook 14S and the PixLab printer meant I could instantly connect to the printer, click print, and enjoy laser-printed documents within seconds. Imagine!
So Super Device is easy to use, boosts productivity, and lets you connect an unprecedented number of proprietary devices together; something that Microsoft, Apple, and Google can do upon a little closer look. Such connectivity is therefore surprisingly ground-breaking, and when it works together, you can see exactly what Huawei’s R&D department has toiled for hours to achieve. A harmonious experience? Real.
