What is the doggy sex position and how does it work?

The DOGGY style is often voted the UK’s most popular sex position – and with good reason.

The sex position is easy to master, can lead to restful sleep, and is unlikely to lead to UTIs – plus it allows for deep penetration and multiple angles.

What is dog pose and how does it work?

In doggy style, also known as the backshot position, the penetrating partner penetrates the receptive partner from behind.

To start, one partner gets on all fours while the other penetrates her.

This sex position is often performed while kneeling, but can also be performed while standing.

Many couples use doggy style for vaginal penetration, but this position can be adapted for anal penetration as well.

The sex position takes its name from the mating style of dogs, but other animals such as horses and camels also practice this type of mating.

What other variations of backshot sex position are there?

Doggy style may be one of the most popular sex positions in the UK along with missionary, but if you want to kick it up a notch there are many variations on the classic.

The best news is: only minor adjustments are needed to get the pleasant benefits.

For example, you can:

  • Change the angle of penetration by leaning forward or backward
  • Bring your pushy partner closer to you by reaching out and grabbing their waist
  • Change the speed and depth of the thrust until you find what feels best
  • Use your hands to grab their hips and help them with each thrust
  • Place a pillow under the recipient’s hips
  • Do it Tiger style—that is, the receiving partner poses on all fours on the bed, knees close to the edge of the bed, and the man stands behind her with his feet on the floor

It’s important to find out what feels good to you, as different angles and speeds will produce different results.

As with most things in the bedroom, it often takes trial and error to figure out what works best for you and your partner.

The most important thing is to make sure you communicate with your partner so everyone is on the same page and having fun.
