Due to the great success of thriller, Four months after its release, a sequel was announced, which will see Sandler and Aniston returning in their roles. But after this announcement there was a lot of radio silence. We suspect the pandemic played a role in delaying filmmaking.
An update on murder mystery 2 only happened in August 2021, when The wedding ring Director Jeremy Garelick has been announced to direct the film from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. It was also announced that production will take place in Paris and Hawaii. Then in January 2022, cameras started rolling for the sequel and more of the cast was announced. After the production was completed in April 2022, we have been patiently waiting murder mystery 2 come out.
We were hoping to see the action comedy in late 2022, but sadly that wasn’t the case. However, the good news is that it was released in early 2023. What is Murder Mystery 2 about?
The sequel takes place four years after the events of the first film. Nick and Audrey Spitz started their own detective agency and are full-time detectives, but they can’t seem to get their company off the ground.
Looking for a getaway, the perfect opportunity presents itself when her billionaire friend the Maharajah invites her to his private island wedding. But like the first film, Nick and Audrey quickly find themselves in another crime game when the Maharaja is kidnapped for ransom. All the Spitz wanted was a weekend getaway, but this high-stakes case might be just what they need to get their private detective agency off the ground and going green.

Do you have to watch the first movie to understand Murder Mystery 2?
No, you don’t have to have seen the first movie to understand what’s going on in the sequel. In the sequel, Nick and Audrey take on a brand new mystery primarily involving a new group of people. However, there are a few characters from the first film murder mystery 2. So if you saw the first movie you would understand Nick and Audrey’s past relationship with them. The mysterious murder case from the first film is also mentioned a few times in the sequel, but is not important to the plot.

As mentioned above, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are returning in their roles as Spitz. Joining Sandler and Aniston from the first film are Adeel Akhtar, John Kani and Danny Boon. Akhtar plays the role of Maharajah, Kani plays Colonel Ulenga, and Boon plays Inspector de la Croix. Newcomers are Mark Strong, Mélanie Laurent, Jodie Turner-Smith, Kuhoo Verma, Enrique Arce, Zurin Villanueva, Tony Goldwyn and Annie Mumolo.

The action comedy is rated PG-13, which means it may not be suitable for children under 13. This rating shouldn’t surprise you if you’ve seen the first film. The original film was also rated PG-13.
