Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for Episodes 1-8 of House of the Dragon.King’s Landing is full of mysteries and whispers, and it seems like Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) is now a retriever of these secrets. In the momentous eighth episode of house of the dragon, we saw many dramatic moments. From Vaemond (Will Johnson) killed by Daemon (MattSmith) to Viserys (Paddy Considine) finally dies at the end of the episode, the moment where we see Mysaria again may have escaped some people but it is a critical scene for the future.
We last saw Mysaria in Episode 4 when she found Daemon sleeping on the floor in one of the brothels after he nearly seduced Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock). She then told him she had left the life of sex work and was trading secrets instead. It is she who Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) about Rhaenyra and Daemon meeting at the brothel, and he refers to her as the White Worm.
Who is the person in the hood?
In The Lord of the Tides we see Mysaria in a white dress greeting a hooded person. She says, “It seems to have been quite a night at the castle.” The woman in the hood is Alicents (Olivia Cook) Servant, Talya (Alexis Raben) that we saw earlier in the episode. Being so close to Alicent makes her an ideal spy for the White Worm.
While some fans have speculated that the hooded character could be Daemon, who has worn this particular cloak before while conducting nefarious deals, or Aemond, who has been seen wearing the cloak in previews, the truth speaks more to Mysarias’ potential Role in war than anything else.
In the earlier scene, we see her delivering Alicent Mondtee as she questions the servant who was sexually assaulted by Aegon (Tom Glynn Carney). The girl Diana (Maddie Evans), is disheveled, crying and scared. She was brought to the queen by Talya. When Alicent asks what happened, she tearfully says, “I got the prince’s wine and put it on his table, and when I turned around…I didn’t see him.” I asked him to stop, Your Grace. For real. You have to believe me.” Although Alicent believes Dyana, she warns her not to tell anyone else and gives the girl a bag of gold, and then Talya brings her the moon tea.
Why is that important?
Mysaria will play a bigger role in the later events of the war, but this moment sets the stage. We now know that Mysaria has a spy at the Red Keep, and it’s likely Talya isn’t the only one. Later in the civil war we know from the book Fire & Blood through George RR Martinthat Mysaria plays a part in the ruse between blacks and greens. She becomes an ally of the blacks, helps hire two deadly assassins, and becomes the mistress of the Whisperers.
Without spoiling some big twists down the line, it seems clear that we haven’t seen the last of Mysaria. With Talya at Misarya’s side, there’s no telling what future information Misarya might have about the Hightowers and the Greens.
