According to the Church, “Monk Thich Minh Tue” – is a man whose real name is Le Anh Tu, born in 1981 in Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province.

Mr. Tu’s family lives in Ia Grai district, Gia Lai province. After giving up his job as a land surveyor in Phu Yen province, Mr. Le Anh Tu walked from Khanh Hoa to the northern provinces and vice versa several times.

Vietnam Buddhist Sangha affirms that the person identified as ‘Monk Thich Minh Tue’ on social media recently is not a Buddhist monk, does not practice Buddhism and is not a staff member of any pagoda or monastery.

Vietnam Buddhist Sangha believes that some social media users have used the image of Mr. Le Anh Tu walking to make comments distorting the religious life of monks, nuns, and Buddhists in the Church.

According to the Buddhist Affairs Online page of the Central Office of the Sangha Information Portal, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) recently sent a document to the VBS Executive Committees of provinces and cities regarding the incident of the person believed to be “Monk Thich Minh Tue”.

Accordingly, in recent days, on social networks TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter, many images and clips have appeared of a man in the form of a monk walking along the route from Khanh Hoa to Ha Giang and vice versa.

On social networks, this person is called “Monk Thich Minh Tue”. On the way walking through the localities, many people and Buddhists gathered in large numbers, offering gifts and food. The images and clips recording the incident caused many mixed opinions, affecting the VBS.

According to the content of the document of the VBS signed by Venerable Thich Duc Thien, Vice President and General Secretary of the VBS Executive Council, after verification and investigation, the Standing Committee of the VBS Executive Council affirmed that this man is not a Buddhist monk, does not practice and is not a staff member of any pagoda or monastery of the VBS.
