Who will win today’s Rajasthan vs Bangalore IPL 2022 Qualifier 2?

After Eliminator defeats in each of their last two Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have finally put together their playoff action and booked their place in Qualifier 2 of the 2022 season. RCB will have an opportunity to secure their place in a fourth IPL final in their clash with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Ahmedabad on Friday 27th May.

Rajat Patidar was an unexpected hero against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a season that allowed other uncapped players like Shahbaz Ahmed to shine for RCB. The big trio of Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell haven’t quite delivered yet and if they do, this could finally be Bangalore’s year.

Meanwhile, RR fell to the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifying 1 despite leading several moments of the game. Prasidh Krishna missed his lines and lengths in the final over and a furious David Miller extended GT’s excellent record while chasing in their maiden IPL campaign.

RR will be looking to make the most of their top-2 result while RCB will look to stave off another heartbreak in the playoffs. Both teams have it all in Qualifying 2.

IPL 2022 Match Prediction: RR vs RCB

Mohammed Siraj returned to the side for the eliminator
Mohammed Siraj returned to the side for the eliminator

Aside from his outstanding hit against GT to help RCB qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs, Kohli hasn’t played an innings to speak of this year. Even in the eliminator, the former RCB skipper faded after a brilliant start, nearly scoring a 25 run-a-ball, allowing the Bangalore middle order to make up for his slowness at the front. He seems to be a real liability at the top and Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing him.

RCB’s pace attack hasn’t been consistent throughout IPL 2022, but they appear to be orienting themselves. Mohammed Siraj returned to the starting eleven in the eliminator, scalping Quinton de Kock’s crucial wicket while Harshal Patel delivered a death bowling masterclass. Josh Hazlewood, who started out a little expensive, knocked down an excellent two-wicket on death to turn the tide.

Add in Wanindu Hasaranga’s favorable duel against Sanju Samson, and you have an RCB bowling lineup specifically tailored to exploit the RR Punch’s weaknesses. Hitting depth was a major concern for the Royals in IPL 2022, and while Buttler’s exploits in the first half of the season and the practical contributions of the middle order in the second masked the cracks, it could all collapse in a high-profile crash game.

However, RR has a strong Bowling Attack himself. Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal have looted 38 Gates together this year, although the Pacers’ influence has waned over time. If they attack early and can put RCB behind, Bangalore might not have a Patidar-like effort to save them two games in a row.

Both teams will try to play positive cricket but RCB’s top order just doesn’t inspire confidence. While the Royal Challengers have every chance of reaching the finals and anything can happen in a playoff game, RR has the slimmest advantage going into the knockout game.

Prognosis: RR wins qualification 2 of the IPL 2022
