Whoopi Goldberg Awkwardly Apologizes For Lame Marriage Joke Directed Towards Lindsey Graham

On Thursday, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s marriage was the subject of a “joke” made on the air by Whoopi Goldberg. After what appeared to be backlash from ABC executives for “joking” that Graham was getting married, Goldberg suggested she might have to leave the program, which she has co-hosted since 2007, in an awkward apology to The View on Thursday.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre criticized the South Carolina senator for calling for a national 15-week abortion ban during the conversation in which she made her comment. Jean-Pierre told the hosts: “We have Lindsey Graham, Senator Graham and others and other Republican Party leaders who say, and they say it very clearly, folks, we have to listen to them, they want a national abortion ban.

However, just a few months ago he believed that this was a state decision, not a national decision. Jean-Pierre asked, “So, Senator Graham, what’s changed?” Whoopi, a longtime comedian, found this the perfect opportunity to crack a joke, a little joke btw, and fired back, “Well, maybe he’s getting married .” Obviously joking that that’s why he suddenly wants it, and co-host Joy Behar doubted that was the reason as the audience cheered.

Goldberg then continued. “Make it quick because I know people fool around with our marriage rights, whoever, wherever you are, you know.” The left has long speculated that the lifelong bachelor may be secretly gay; Over the years, comedians such as Bill Maher, Jon Steward, and Patti Lupone have made crude remarks about his sexual orientation or made implicit references to it.

Twitter and other social media platforms are also frequently used for such conversations. However, when the program resumed after a commercial break, Goldberg appeared wrinkled as she told the audience that she “needed to make it clear that I’m doing what I’m doing as a comedian.”

Why apologize for such a little joke? Especially from a comedian… Are we really not allowed to do those little tiny one-line jokes anymore?
