Why are Beatrice and Eugenie princesses but not Zara?

PRINCESSES Beatrice and Eugenie are the daughters of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

They are the granddaughters of the late Queen Elizabeth II and nieces of King Charles III.

Why are Beatrice and Eugenie princesses?

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have their titles because of a centuries-old tradition.

Her great-great-grandfather, George V, issued a letters patent in 1917.

It states: “The grandchildren of the sons of such sovereign in the direct male line (excepting the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales) shall on all occasions have the style and title enjoyed by the children of the Dukes of these realms of ours .

George V’s patent states that the monarch’s grandchildren can bear the royal titles of “prince” or “princess.”

Since their father, Prince Andrew, is the monarch’s son, they have the title of princess.

Zara Tindall does not have the title of princess because she comes from the female line.

Her family connection to the Crown is through her mother Anne, Princess Royal.

Princess Eugenie’s official title was Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie of York before her marriage to Jack Brooksbank in 2018.

She is now known as Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank.

Beatrice married Italian real estate tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a private ceremony at Windsor Castle in July 2020.

After her marriage, Beatrice became an Italian “Contessa” (countess) or “Nobile Donna” (noblewoman), she explains Express.

Edoardo’s father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, comes from the Italian aristocracy, it is said.

Count Mozzi said: “Edoardo is the only male descendant to lead the family into the next generation.”

The Queen stood up for George before Kate’s birth and issued a patent to ensure that all of the Cambridges’ children would receive appropriate titles.

This is because, according to King George V’s letter patent, an older sister would not be a princess, but a younger brother would be a prince.

But Harry and Meghan’s son Archie was not automatically entitled to the title of prince because he is not the child of a future monarch.

Being a prince or princess does not automatically mean that royals have police protection.

The security of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie is no longer paid for by taxpayers.

Are Beatrice and Eugenie on the throne?

The royal family has grown significantly in recent years and has welcomed over ten royal babies since 2010.

The most recent royal birth was Ernest Brooksbank, son of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, in 2023.

So what does the growing clan mean in terms of succession?

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, her son Charles became King Charles III.

Charles is followed by his eldest son Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, and then his children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Louis fails to overtake his sister Charlotte in the line of succession after the law was changed to give preference to male heirs.

Prince Harry, who was third in line to the throne in 2013, is now sixth in line behind his nieces and nephews.

Meghan and Harry’s two children are sixth and seventh in line to the throne.

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, is relegated to eighth place across the board.

His and Sarah Ferguson’s first-born daughter, Beatrice, is ninth on the succession list, while her sister Eugenie is eleventh.

Do Beatrice and Eugenie have children?

Princess Beatrice and her husband, real estate tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, welcomed their first child in 2021.

Her daughter Sienna Mapelli Mozzi was born in September and was the queen’s twelfth great-grandchild.

Princess Beatrice is also stepmother to her husband Christopher Woolf’s son from a previous relationship.

They welcomed their son August Brooksbank on February 9, 2021 and Ernest Brooksbank on May 30, 2023.
