Why Matt Lucas left Great British Bake Off

Matt Lucas has shed some light on his decision to leave his role as co-host The Great British Bake Off.

The 48-year-old comedian took part in Channel 4’s baking competition in 2020 as a presenter alongside presenter Noel Fielding and judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. He announced his resignation in December last year.

The Little Britain star has been replaced by This morning Fan favorite Alison Hammond, who made her Bake Debuts on Tuesday (September 26).

Speaking in a February interview on the Deeney talks PodcastLucas referred Bake as a “pandemic job” and admitted he had “never seen the show” before being approached to star in it.

“I had never seen the show before and I wasn’t a baker,” he said.

“They were looking for a new host and it came at a time when I had lived in LA for seven years, had just sold my house there and was thinking about coming back and spending more time with my family and friends. ”

He continued: “I was told they were interested in me but I said I’d never seen it before so they did it.” [Love Productions] asked if I would watch it and I watched a few episodes and thought it was great, but I don’t want to host a TV show, but said, ‘Thanks, I’m really grateful.'”

With his agent’s encouragement, Lucas eventually agreed to meet with the production company.

“Anyway, I went along and got the job and then I was like, ‘Oh, okay,’ and it just happened – it was right around the time of the pandemic, and it was the perfect pandemic job, and I did made it.” and it was fun and I had a great time with Noel and Paul and Prue and the bakers were nice and I learned a bit about baking.”

Lucas said that after some time he felt like he wanted to focus more on it Fantasy Football Leaguewrites a book and a musical and is working on a new TV series with his ex Little Britain Co-star David Walliams.

“It probably makes better use of what I have Bake,“, he said Fantasy Football League.

“I just don’t have the time and won’t do it Bake means I have time to write and record my music with David Fantasy Football League.”

Lucas and Walliams are famous for their controversial sketch show from the 2000s. Little Britainwhich has faced accusations of racism in recent years because the couple appeared in blackface on the series.

Walliams was replaced as host Britain’s Got Talent Earlier this year, after his derogatory comments about participants – including sexually explicit remarks about a woman and another instance in which he called an older man a “s***” – were leaked.

He was replaced on the ITV talent show by Bruno Tonioli.

BakeRichard McKerrow, showrunner and executive producer of , recently said that a new co-host for Fielding on the series would soon be announced. He is looking for someone who will “look after the bakers during their experience and be curious about what they are baking.” and all with charm, humor and friendliness.”

The new host will make his debut on the show when it returns this fall.
