In the exciting first episode of Grey’s anatomy Two-part arc, the fate of fan-favorite Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) remains up in the air.
Historically, the show hasn’t pulled punches when it comes to killing off beloved characters.
Will Addison share McDreamy’s fate or will the writers bring Kate Walsh back for more? Read on to find out.

Why did Addison come back?

Kate Walsh returned for Training Day as Addison Montgomery, a renowned and talented neonatal surgeon and gynaecologist. She made a special appearance at the Gray Sloan Memorial to welcome Miranda Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) OB/GYN trainees to her new clinic, the Elena Bailey Reproductive Healthcare Clinic.
Throughout the season, Addison and Bailey have been on the front lines of fighting to give women access to proper reproductive health care. While Addison traveled the country with a relocating clinic and became a figurehead of the pro-choice movement, Bailey built the clinic at Gray Sloan Memorial.
Addison’s pro-choice beliefs make her a polarizing figure online, leading people to doxx her and her family.

Addison reveals to Bailey that people hacked her phone and leaked her private information. Not only that, their moving clinic was vandalized and destroyed.
Due to the vitriol she’s facing, she’s unsure if she has what it takes to continue the good fight.
Pro-life protests outside Bailey’s clinic turn ugly

Addison’s arrival sparks pro-life protests outside the clinic. As the crowd grows more violent, a protester throws a brick reading “Montgomery Murders” through the window. The brick hits new intern Benson “Blue” Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.), knocking him to the ground.
While Kwan is patched up by a pregnant trainee who reveals she may have alerted Addison’s haters to her whereabouts after posting excitedly about Addison on Instagram.

After escorting the patients through a safe route out the door and to their cars, the trainee tries to apologize to Addison for the whole situation. But before she can, a car mows them both down in the middle of the street.
The episode ends with her fate hanging in the air.
Will Addison die in the next episode?

Grey’s Anatomy is famous for killing off its loved ones, but after all its fans have endured, does it have the guts to kill Addison?
Most character deaths have coincided with the departure of the cast, but Kate Walsh has not yet commented on whether or not she will be returning for the recently renewed 20th season.
Speaking exclusively to Entertainment Tonight, actor Harry Shum Jr. said, “We’ll see what they do to save Addison.”
But Shum Jr. teased that his character’s fate may also be uncertain: “It’s a life and death situation … It was, I think, one of those experiences where someone had to do one for the team and Blue definitely did one for the team.”
