The romantic drama film purple hearts premiered on Netflix in July 2022 and people wasted no time streaming it to see what it was all about. purple hearts is a Netflix Original film directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum from a screenplay co-written by Kyle Jarrow and Liz Garcia. Based on the 2017 book of the same name by Tess Wakefield, it tells the story of an aspiring singer and a troubled US Marine who agree on a marriage of convenience for military gain. But when an unexpected tragedy strikes and the soldier is sent home earlier than expected, a marriage of convenience becomes a real one.

Is Purple Hearts 2 happening?
As of August 2023, Netflix has not indicated that a sequel is in the works. The odds there is purple hearts 2 are slim to non-existent. The romantic drama comes to an end quite neatly when Cassie and Luke get together. A continuation of the story therefore seems unnecessary.
However, should there be a sequel, it could follow the lives of Cassie and Luke as a real-life married couple. Maybe they could even have children. As with any married couple, there will be problems. Remember Luke was kicked out of the US Marine Corps after being accused of fraud. This could cause problems in their relationship as Luke struggles to find a job. Then Cassie’s singing career takes off. This means that she will be out on various tours and will never really be home. This could also create tension in their relationship.
Sofia Carson is open to a Purple Hearts sequel
In August 2022 Interviewed by VarietyCarson and Rosenbaum spoke about the making of the film, casting Galitzine as Luke, and (of course!) fan demand for a sequel. As previously mentioned, the love story seems to have ended in the movie, but fans couldn’t get enough of Cassie and Luke.
Luckily, Carson seems to agree with them. She told Variety:
“Now the fans are kind of clamoring for a sequel and there’s so much fan theories and fan stories and possible spinoffs, so obviously it’s nice to imagine a life for Cassie and Luke after this movie. I love being Cassie and I’m excited to see where that goes. Who knows. You never know!”
Rosenbaum echoed Carson’s views, and Variety teased that there had been talks of continuing the story in a sequel, albeit “nothing official.” The director told Variety:
“I mean, I could watch those two and their chemistry all day. And they’re just great people to work with, so I’m definitely not ruling that out. We wouldn’t do anything if we didn’t really, really like it because we want to stay true to integrity. We haven’t landed on anything concrete yet. It’s always a possibility.”
Galitzine was also responding to the film’s success and fan reaction to wanting another film. Here’s what the actor said to the people in August 2022:
“We’ll definitely see what happens. Even in private we joke about what would happen and how we might be able to continue the story because the script has to be good. It should make sense. It should work. There are many different possibilities and we’ll wait and see if it’s the right story. But it’s very cool to see people asking for a second one.”
Nicholas Galitzine talks about interest in Purple Hearts 2
During a conversation with Marc Malkin on Just for a change podcast while Red, White and Royal Blue Advertisement (the interview was conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike but was released during it), Galitzine asked a question about a possible sequel purple hearts.
With nothing made official apart from fan chatter and interest, Galitzine was careful not to hype up a sequel, but did comment on fan interest in it. Mentioning the ongoing strikes that are bringing most film and television projects to a standstill, he was careful not to say anything unusual.
Here’s what Galitzine Malkin said:
“With these projects I try to let nature take its course. Of course, if there are people clamoring for it, I will always consider it, and I think right now I’m just blown away by the incredible filmmakers, actors, writers and producers that I’ve been able to connect with.”
The actor elaborated on that sentiment further, expressing his gratitude for the work he was able to do and the advancement he brings as an actor with each role. However, he ended his response with, “We’ll see what happens.” We’re all calmly optimistic.”
Unfortunately for fans, Netflix doesn’t have a sequel in development, but like Carson said, you never know.
