Will Zalatoris withdraws from BMW Championship with back injury

Will Zatoris retired from the third round of the BMW Championship on Saturday due to a back injury.

Zulatoris blasted a 3-under par 139 in the first two rounds to enter play five shots behind leader Adam Scott of Australia on Saturday.

He was four shots back when he appeared to suffer his injury after teeing off on Saturday’s fourth hole. He carefully walked down the fairway and finished the hole; Attempts to stretch before the fifth hole did not go well, however, and he elected to withdraw from the tournament.

Zulatoris recorded his first PGA Tour title this past weekend. He defeated Austria’s Sepp Straka in a playoff on Sunday to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee.

Zlatoris, who turned 26 on Tuesday, is ninth in the world rankings.

He is best known for several close misses in major championships early in his career. He finished second at the 2021 Masters before technically being a full member of the PGA Tour.

This year he finished runner-up at the PGA Championship after losing to Justin Thomas in a playoff and finishing runner-up at the US Open.
