Woman ‘sexually assaulted as she walked through subway’ as cops arrest man

A WOMAN was reportedly sexually assaulted as she walked through a subway – with cops arresting a man.

The 29-year-old man remains in custody after the woman was attacked on the College Road subway in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, at 11.30pm yesterday.

He was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault shortly after the alleged attack.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward – including a man who “intervened” to help the victim and two women who spoke to the suspect before the reported attack.

Investigating Detective Sergeant Janine Broughton said: “We are particularly interested in speaking to a man who intervened to help the victim, which resulted in the suspect fleeing the scene.”

“We would also like to speak to two women who may have spoken to the suspect shortly before the incident.”
