World Series Game 3: Phillies set to host Astros at Citizens Bank Park; schedule of events, info on free SEPTA rides announced

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Fresh from singing another rollicking chorus of “Fly, Eagles fly,” fans poured out of Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, quickly shifting their attention from the only undefeated NFL club to another Philly team, sport and building only a few hundred meters away.

“Let’s go Phillies!” some sang in the hall. “Let’s go, Harper!” others yelled as they headed for the exits.

do you think that was loud? Just wait until the World Series returns to Philadelphia for the first time since 2009. Also on Halloween night, with the Phillie Phanatic sure to be in rare form.

Citizens Bank Park, already frenzied throughout the NL playoffs, will pulse positively for Game 3 on Monday night – assuming the rain that’s in the forecast doesn’t dampen things.

Noah Syndergaard will play for the Phillies against Lance McCullers Jr. and the Houston Astros, with the series drawing one game each.

“Philly fans are the best, they know the game. They just have a way of showing displeasure that’s sometimes hard for players to understand,” Mike Schmidt, the biggest Phillie of them all, said in an email to The Associated Press on Sunday.

That’s certainly a way of putting it, coming from a three-time NL MVP and first-choice Hall of Famer who’s had enough boos at Veterans Stadium.

Schmidt is widely expected to be at the stadium for the pre-game celebrations when the series resumes after a day of travel. And he’s sure to draw a standing ovation and hear loud cheers — in fact, the city of brotherly love is in love with all of its Phillies these days.

A large World Series banner was displayed on their stadium. Across the street, a giant “Let’s Go Phillies!” Schild was draped from the Eagles’ stadium before they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 35-13 to go 7-0.

SEPTA is offering free rides home from Citizens Bank Park this week.

There will also be an additional service.

Fans can take the Broad Street Line directly to the sports complex by getting off at the NRG station. And you don’t have to pay a fare to get home.

SEPTA will augment regular service beginning at 6:00 p.m. with five express and three commuter trains from Fern Rock Transportation Center

World Series Betting

It’s not just the players who have a vested interest in the outcome of the Fall Classic.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner made a bet on Twitter.

If the Phillies win – if the Phillies win – Houston sends chicken and waffles from The Breakfast Klub, some Dome Faux’m from the 8th Wonder Brewery, and donates to Kids Meals Inc. of Houston. Kenney is also asking for a donation to Philly’s Mighty Writers.

If the Astros win — unlikely — Philly will send in a six-pack from Triple Bottom Brewing Company and a meal from South Philly Barbacoa.

The Philadelphia City Council placed a bet of its own with the Houston City Council.

The challenge has been accepted and it will be called Cheesesteaks vs. BBQ.

Philadebundance aims to continue its winning streak with its “Strike Out Hunger” fundraising challenge.

Philabundance and Feeding San Diego faced off during the National League Championship Series to see who could raise the most funds to help fight hunger. Philabundance raised $16,944 and Feeding San Diego raised $7,707.

Now Philabundance is taking on the Houston Food Bank, the country’s largest food bank.
