Roman Reigns will not defend his WWE Universal Championship at the upcoming Hell in a Cell event. However, he is expected to defend the title at Money in the Bank, which takes place on July 2 in Las Vegas. But it seems that Drew McIntyre is not a match in his plans.
As reported, WWE wants Reigns’ first guard as the Unified WWE Universal Champion to come at a big show like Money in the Bank. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has said that Drew McIntyre will not be facing off against Roman Reigns at the show.
He said WWE is saving a match between Reigns and McIntyre for Clash at the Castle, which will take place in the UK. The current picks for Reigns’ opponent for MITB are Bobby Lashley and Randy Orton.
”This changes by the hour but for now the plan is not for McIntyre to challenge, as the working idea is Reigns vs. McIntyre on March 9 in Cardiff. There don’t seem to be many options, as Goldberg vs. Reigns was blown away, as was Lesnar, although you can always do it again. The only other people at this point pushing to that level would be Bobby Lashley or Randy Orton,” Meltzer said.
Who could Roman Reigns face at Money in the Bank?
Meltzer also said that despite a tease for Shinsuke Nakamura vs Roman Reigns. the former’s failure to Sami Zayn on SmackDown essentially made him a candidate.
Given the choice between Bobby Lashley and Randy Orton, it’s likely Orton will be picked. Viper was engaged in a rivalry with The Bloodline of late and even faced Reigns at WrestleMania Backlash in a 6-man teamfight.
Orton and his tag team partner Riddle have joined Drew McIntyre to take on The Usos and Reigns. The team calling themselves RK-McBro couldn’t beat Reigns and his cousins.
