Young Thug’s Rights Are Being Violated in Jail, Lawyer Says

Young Thug is accused of being in bad shape in prison after being arrested on RICO charges earlier this week.

On Friday (May 13), Thugger’s attorney filed an emergency request for his release, citing that the rapper is being held under unreasonable conditions in the Fulton County Jail, XXL confirmed through legal documents. Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, told the judge the rapper was being held in complete isolation in a room with no windows. Steel insists his client cannot sleep because the overhead lights in his cell are on 24 hours and he has no access to media or human contact. Steel also claimed the food the rapper was being fed was inedible. Steel claimed that the conditions violated the rapper’s constitutional rights.

As previously reported, Young Thug, Gunna and 26 others affiliated with YSL were indicted on RICO charges on Monday (May 9). In a 56-page grand jury indictment, authorities are accusing the YSL of being a violent street gang co-founded by Young Thug in 2012. The indictment includes negative charges. Conspiracy to violate the Influential and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, murder, armed robbery, engage in street crime gang activity and more.

Young Thug was arrested on Monday, while Gunna became a police officer the next day. On the same day Gunna surrendered to authorities, police indicted Young Thug with seven additional counts including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; VGCSA in possession of a Schedule III, IV, or V controlled substance with intent to distribute; possession of a firearm when committing a felony, possession of a sawed handgun; sawed rifles, machine guns, dangerous weapons or silencers; and three separate illegal counts against a person employed by/affiliated with a street crime gang to conduct/participate in criminal activity. Several additional charges appear to be the result of police raids on Thug’s residence in the Buckhead, Atlanta neighborhood. Both Young Thug and Gunna were denied a relationship when they appeared before a judge on Thursday (May 13).
