Bethesda and Xbox shone the spotlight on Starfield during their recent weekend showcase, revealing more than 15 minutes of new footage and information from director Todd Howard.
The studio didn’t mention this during the presentation, but shortly after, the Bethesda Game Studios Twitter account revealed some new details about dialogues in Starfield and how your created character – the game’s protagonist – interacts with NPCs. In short, speaking to NPCs is done in the first-person perspective, and your character remains mute as they have no voice.

As you can see in the tweet above, the studio has cleared up some possible confusion surrounding the created character that we will all be playing in Starfield. This revelation was praised by some and criticized by others. Some Bethesda fans prefer the studio’s RPGs where you remain silent, while others prefer their character to have a voice that they can hear in-game.
I’m cool with both. However, I hope Starfield’s dialogue is more like Fallout 3 than Fallout 4. In the former, you would essentially see all of the dialogue your selection would result in, whereas in Fallout 4 your selection was more like mood options and just gave a general overview of that selection’s dialogue. It took away some of my character’s agency, and I hope Starfield restores that a bit. But only time will tell.
Starfield will be released sometime in 2023 on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.
