Zara Larsson is shocked by the true meaning of ‘The Ketchup Song’ | Culture

Zara Larsson took to TikTok to express her shock at realizing the true meaning of 2002’s hit “The Ketchup Song.”

The noughties anthem’s lyrics aren’t exclusively in Spanish — the chorus is a recreation of the Sugar Hill Gang’s groundbreaking 1979 hip-hop track “Rapper’s Delight.”

Larsson explained that the lyrics refer to a man asking a DJ to play his favorite song at midnight – but he can’t remember the name and instead sings his own, fake version of the song. The chorus of “The Ketchup Song” is this version of “Rapper’s Delight”, although it’s pretty far from the original.
