PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A West Philadelphia family pleads for justice in the search for a hit-and-run driver.
It has been a month since Zerina Grisby, 29, was attacked near the intersection of 50th Street and Haverford Avenue in West Philadelphia.
The mother had 18 surgeries and her leg had to be amputated. The driver who hit her is still at large.
“She’s really going through life trauma that she’s going to have to live with for the rest of her life,” said Christine Stone, the victim’s best friend.
The 29-year-old’s brother says he hopes to find the person behind the wheel.
“It’s overwhelming. It’s definitely overwhelming, but I have to be strong for her to get through it,” said Antonio Stokes, Grisby’s brother.
Christine Stone said she is currently looking after Grisby’s four-year-old son. She says he hasn’t seen his mother since the crash on July 18.
“That’s his mom, you know, they only have each other,” Stone said.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the hit-and-run.

According to police, Grisby was at a local shop with her 3-year-old son, two nieces and a friend. They were crossing the street when the accident happened.
Grisby and her two nieces, aged 13 and 3, were struck by the vehicle.
Grisby sustained a serious injury to her leg. The young girls suffered minor injuries, according to police.
“Her leg was half gone. She bled to death. I guess she pushed her son out of the way to save him and she was hit, but she couldn’t prevent her nieces from being hit,” said the victim’s sister, Yahyah Gary.
Police said they were looking for a dark-colored car, possibly a Nissan, last seen on Haverford Avenue. Surveillance video of the vehicle being searched for was recorded nearby.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 215-686-TIPS.
