Florida Joker wants $2 million from Rockstar after GTA 6 trailer
While many people were excited about the Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal trailer, one person wasn’t so happy about the character it featured in the game. The infamous Florida Joker has demanded that Rockstar Games pay him $2 million to use his likeness in the GTA 6 reveal trailer.
Lawrence Sullivan, a former tattoo model known online as the Florida Joker, recently posted a video on his TikTok page criticizing Rockstar. “We gotta talk about GTA… or else you gotta pay me a million or two… You took my likeness. You took my life.” Other TikTok users in the comments section of the short video had mixed reactions, with some mocking Lawrence and others encouraging him to sue Rockstar.
The GTA 6 reveal trailer shows that a lot of the inspiration for Vice City, the game’s setting, comes from the real-life state of Florida. Many viewers were able to point out a number of parody references to various viral videos and pranks involving the state. Some of the biggest nods include the Florida man meme, a woman twerking on top of a moving car, and Florida Joker crime mugshots.
Since Lawrence’s video was posted on TikTok, Red Dead Redemption 2 voice actor Roger Clark has responded. He was quick to point out that Rockstar has been mocking famous events and characters for a long time and that taking any legal action against them would be pointless. Roger is best known for lending his voice to the character Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2.
On social media, Twitter users have asked attorney Robert Freund for a legal opinion on Lawrence’s recent video. He claimed that it was unlikely that Lawrence would receive any payment from Rockstar, citing the same action that actress Lindsay Lohan attempted to take against Rockstar for GTA V in 2014 for allegedly using her likeness in the game.
While Lawrence’s video has amused many on social media, it appears that no legal action has been taken since. Rockstar has yet to comment on the matter since Lawrence posted her original video.
