Sean “Diddy” Combs Trial Date Likely Pushed Back to May 2025: Here’s Why
Sean “Diddy” Combs is slated to face his long-anticipated federal sex crimes trial in May 2025. During a Manhattan court appearance on October 10, 2024, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian officially set the trial to begin on May 5, 2025 (Patch, Wikipedia). However, a former federal prosecutor has warned that this date might still be subject to change (Showbiz Cheat Sheet).
The potential delay stems largely from a possible superseding indictment, which could introduce new, more serious allegations involving minors. Such developments would complicate matters legally—because minors cannot legally consent to sexual activity, such charges would require an entirely different defense strategy and could significantly extend pretrial preparation (Showbiz Cheat Sheet).
Even without that, Combs’ defense team did attempt to push the schedule back. On April 18, 2025, they requested a two-month delay, citing last-minute additions to the indictment and needing extra time to build their case. Judge Subramanian denied the request, asserting that with four attorneys on the team, Combs had sufficient time to prepare—and that granting a delay would allow a “fishing expedition” for more evidence (WKMG, AP News).
Thus, while the May 5, 2025 start date currently stands, legal experts and Combs’ own defense had hoped for more lead time. But unless a superseding indictment changes the landscape, the trial is likely to move forward as scheduled.
