6,000-acre brush fire burning in Klickitat County


The Newell Road Fire is burning in grass, bushes and wood. It is threatening homes, farms, wheat fields, solar and wind farms, landfills and livestock.
KLICKITAT DISTRICT, Wash. — The Newell Road Fire is burning approximately 6,000 acres in Klickitat County and continues to grow.
According to the Klickitat 2 County Fire Department, the fire was burning near the town of Bickleton. state fire service has been mobilized.
The Newell Road fire started Friday at 3:35 p.m. and is still growing. It is burning in the grass, brush and wood. It is threatening homes, farms, wheat fields, solar and wind farms, landfills and livestock, according to Klickitat Fire.
Level 1 and 3 evacuations are in effect at the moment. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The Red Cross opened a shelter for evacuees in Klickitat County. Those affected by the fire and in need of shelter are encouraged to visit Goldendale Middle School, located at 520 East Collins Street in Goldendale.
